Couragem
Couragem is a leather design atelier based in Lisbon, Portugal. We create handmade, personalised leather goods for individual customers, wedding planners, brands, hospitality businesses and corporate clients.
We work primarily with vegetable-tanned leather and combine traditional leatherworking with techniques such as hand engraving, blind embossing, Hot Foil, laser engraving, machine embroidery and applied leather elements. Products are made to order or in small batches rather than mass-produced.

Leather notebooks
Our notebooks are designed and made in Lisbon using full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather. Selected models can be personalised with names, initials or short messages. Formats and configurations vary by product. They are designed for writing, drawing, planning, travel journals, sketching and everyday use.
Leather bags
Couragem creates original leather bags, including crossbody and tote styles. Some models feature machine embroidery or personalisation. Fixed designs are produced to order in small quantities, while selected pieces are created as one-of-one designs. Each one-of-one piece is made only once and is not reproduced after it sells.
Weddings, private events and corporate projects
Couragem creates personalised leather products for weddings, private dinners, hotels, restaurants, brands and corporate events. Projects can include napkin rings, place markers, wine-glass markers, luggage tags, labels, corporate gifts and other branded leather goods. Personalisation options, quantities, colours and production schedules depend on the product and project.
Live leather embossing for events
Live leather embossing is Couragem’s event service. Our team brings embossing equipment to corporate events, brand activations, weddings and destination events. Guests can choose from approved names, initials, short messages or designs and watch the personalisation being applied directly to their leather piece during the event. The service can be delivered in Lisbon, elsewhere in Portugal or internationally.
Live leather embossing is the only service offered by Couragem. Personalisation techniques are also used as part of the production of Couragem’s own leather goods.
Techniques and materials
- Blind embossing: a relief pressed into leather without colour
- Hot Foil: metallic or coloured foil applied with heat and pressure
- Manual engraving: letters and details engraved by hand, one by one
- Laser engraving: precise reproduction of names, text, images, logos and graphic elements
- Machine embroidery and applied leather elements on selected designs
We primarily use vegetable-tanned leather, selected for its texture, structure and ability to develop a natural patina. Selected products also use suede and leather with natural hair. Materials and finishes vary by product.
Production and delivery
Many products are made to order and personalised after an order is confirmed. The usual production time is 3–5 business days unless the product page states a different timeframe. Larger corporate and event projects are planned individually according to quantity, personalisation requirements and event date.
